The history of Mirabai is partly shrouded in legend. She belonged to a noble Rajput family and since childhood she considered herself the bride of Lord Krishna.
She was still very young and she was promised to the prince heir to the throne, but her husband died a few years after the wedding, without giving her children. It was then that Mirabai, who according to the customs of the time should have climbed the funeral ‘pyre’ to follow her dead husband, changed her life and devoted herself totally to her search for her Beloved Krishna for her.
After embracing the teachings of his guru and contravening the social norms of the time, Mirabai began to lead an ascetic life of total abandonment to God. His devotional practices, according to the way of Bhakti, became more and more intense and his fame began to spread all over the place.
